The Time

“I’ll run away, till I am bigger, but then I’ll fight…”

I see you there
A pretty bird
On broken wing
Dying in the corner

How I want to heal you now
But I think you’ll shrink away
I know that you have to trust
I wait for you to lead the way

You limber to your feet
And preen your plumage down
Like you’ve done so many times
You’re depraved and you’re deprived
Can’t you leave it all behind

It is always here
For you to trip your feet:
A brutal past may in the morrow clip your wings

        You seem to come alive
        Beyond the longest time
        Why should we deny
        Ev’ry tie that binds

        Bind us to the future
        Bind us to the past
Tonight has bound us close together
        Let yourself be loved
        Never let love go

I see you fly
Then you return
Is this a lesson
You have learned

I paid the price so long ago
Like a book you always knew
And I could have told you so
But like a book you read me too

You limber to your feet
And smooth your eiderdown
Like we’ve done so many times
Let someone into our life
Let them in, let them go

Now has come the time.
