Haunted Twice

In your absence
You are living
I made your spirit mine

Though you’re gone
To some place
I’m never sure to find

For each new face
I charge a steeper cost
No one can pay
The sum that I have lost

For once and all
A ghost keeps by my side
Should I see you in their eyes
I’m haunted twice

                How can it be
To be blind is to see
All that I have is myself
All that I gave is set free

My bones are aching for new life
                Beside my stone I’m waiting
For truth to set it right

I could awake in a perfect skin
I would have to do nothing
But bury the mess of life that has been

There’s a river
That may carry
Beyond the crooked tree

I might sup
Shining water
Upon a bended knee

And stretching up into the sky
All is white and wide
Broken now, this mirror
Draws blood from the inside

For once and all
I dress my wounds and hide
I had seen me in your eyes
I’m haunted twice.
