It’s not how you claim
That you’ll never have the capacity
It’s that you don’t want to
You don’t want to know
You don't know, and you don’t want me
But whatever, that’s OK
Whatever happened to us?
There was no us
This was an illusion from so long ago
I can’t remember who we were
Maybe we were never there
And I can’t remember where
Or whenever, I do not know
Whatever happened to August?
Years have drifted; years have sifted
All this time I didn’t realise
You were out to get me; out to impress me
But you cannot be. I never knew
Whatever it was we needed to prove
Whatever was it?
Whatever happened to us?
(Whatever happened to us?)
It’s not how you claim
(Whatever happened to us?)
It’s not how you claim
Things can never stay the same
You were handed your dreams on a plate
We did not share a similar fate
I’ve learned too much of the dark side
I’ve learned whatever you didn’t
And whatever, now it’s too late.
